Francis Murphy devoted his life to the Church, and what a life it was. After serving as a priest for 71 years, Msgr. Murphy passed away Oct. 2 at the age of 96.The faithful par- ish priest ministered to countless people throughout the Arch- diocese of Mobile and also had a profound effect on numerous archdiocesan priests, many who were gath- ered at his Mass of Christian Burial on Oct. 6 at St. Dominic Parish, where he ministered for more than 30 years. “At most funerals I like to use this particular quotation … ‘every tombstone carries a date of birth and a date of death, separated by a dash, which signifies the life lived.
