Now that he’s been named di- rector of prison ministry, Deacon Tidwell said he’d like to reach out to those who are not Catholic. “We need to expand our fo- cus,” Deacon Tidwell said. “Our Lord, our Holy Father, our Archbishop remind us we are all God’s children and to pray for one another.” Deacon Tidwell described prison ministry as a ministry that provides one with a wide variety of situations and backgrounds. What he has encountered are “people in pain. They’re try- ing to recapture something that they had taken away from them – their freedom.” But he’s also encountered those who are yearning for God. “There are guys in there who love Jesus, who love God. We don’t talk about their cases,” Deacon Tidwell said. “There are those who you can tell are fer- vent. They truly worship God and that is their parish.” In his six years with prison ministry, Deacon Tidwell has met volunteers who can’t handle going into a prison.“I know peo- ple who have absolutely resisted. They hear that metal door slam behind them and it has an effect on them. It truly does.” Those who can’t handle it, can still be part of prison min- istry, he said. “Everybody can be part of prison ministry. We can pray,” Deacon Tidwell said. “Prayer is a very important element of it.We can turn our thoughts to prayer.” — For more information on prison ministry, visit www.mo - barch.org/prisons/ Ministry From page 1 Pray for Vocations For more information contact: Fr. Now these men and women are trying to give back so others may reap the benefits of a Catholic education. They have been supplementing tuition pay- ments for a limited number of students. Now they hope to expand the number of donors to support more Catholic students. They are calling these do- nors “Guardian Angels.” There are two ways the “Angels” can help. They may agree to offset a child’s monthly tu- ition payment by sending a monthly check to St. Michael and it will be directly deposited to the child’s account, lowering the monthly bill. The donor does not know the name of the child. The child does not know the donor. Another way to donate is to contribute directly to the “St. Michael Guardian Angel Fund.” — For more information contact Jenny Kopf at 251-459-0120 or email jkopf@stmichaelchs.org or visit stmichaelchs.org/guardian-angel-program.
