Photos by Rob Herbst The Catholic Week By ROBHERBST The Catholic Week MOBILE — Hundreds came out to celebrate God’s mercy on April 8. The second Sunday of Easter marks Divine Mercy Sunday and the Visitation Monastery annually holds an outdoor Mass and celebration for the Feast Day. This year’s celebrant was Fr. Marcin Dudziak, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Mo- bile and a native of Poland, a prominent locale in the history of Divine Mercy Sunday. Divine Mercy Sunday is based on St. Faustina Kowal- ska’s revelations from Jesus fo- cusing on God’s mercy. Jesus asked on numerous oc- casions during His revelations with then-Sr. Faustina that a feast day be dedicated to the Divine Mercy. In 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina and es- tablished the feast day of Divine Mercy Sunday. Both St. Faustina and Pope Saint John Paul II are natives of Poland and Fr.Dudziak brought relics of both for the faithful. Along with the relics, patrons also venerated the image of Di- vine Mercy. “They are here with us. ... to give you the graces which flow from the Divine Mercy image. Let us celebrate the mercy of God for us.” Fr. Dudziak said in his homily. He added: “It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do.We all fail him. Jesus does not con- demn us. Nor is He angry with us. It is because He is the God of mercy. He is the God of love and forgiveness.” For more photos, visit facebook.com /TheCatholicWeek
