Submitted by Paulette Corban Sister Marie Therese SsEW, Sister Rose Marie SsEW and Sister Mary Michael SsEW— Sister Servants of the Eternal Word from Irondale — visited south Alabama in February. The St. Bartholomew Society hosted a dinner for the sisters on Feb. 15 as several area priests, representatives from St. Patrick and St. Benedict Catholic Schools and members of the society welcomed the sisters. The sisters made classroom visits on Feb. 16 to St. Patrick Catholic School in Robertsdale and St. Benedict Catholic School in Elberta, talk- ing to the children about consecrated life.The sisters also attended Stations of the Cross at St. Bartholomew Parish.The Knights of Columbus prepared supper for the sisters and parishioners. The St. Bartholomew Society also sponsored a “Lenten Preparation” mini retreat on Feb. 17. The program began with a Rosary. Following the Rosary, the group of more than 45 people listened to Sister Rose Marie speak on "Under- taking the Lenten Journey" and Sister Marie Therese spoke on "Passion, Death, and Resur- rection." The Lenten Preparation ended with Mass celebrated by St. Bartholomew Pastor Fr.Wayne Youngman. SISTER SERVANTS OF THE ETERNAL WORD South Alabama welcomes Sisters from Irondale KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 8740 Submitted by Vincent Duff Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes Council 8740 won the prestigious STAR Council Award for the third consecutive year.The Council thus met requirements for the Columbian, Mc- Givney and Founders awards. The Council earned the Father McGivney Award for Membership Growth by adding five new Knights to its roster.The Council earned the Founders Award for Insurance Growth by having at least seven attendees join online for two Fraternal Benefit seminars.The council earned the Columbian Award for program completion. It attained 16 program credits, four in each of the four "Faith in Action" categories and timely submitted Form SP-7. There were only 18 councils in Alabama that won the STAR Council Award.
