PAGE 10 THE CATHOLIC WEEK APRIL 5, 2024 A JOURNEY TO EASTER THROUGHOUT THE ARCHDIOCESE OF MOBILE Palm Sunday Fr. Chris Boutin, pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Troy, blesses palms outside the church at the outset of the Palm Sunday Mass on March 24. The faithful then processed into the church. Chrism Mass Priests of the Archdiocese of Mobile (right) extend their hands toward the vessel containing Holy Chrism and say the "Prayer of Consecration" silently as Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi pronounces it over the Chrism during the Chrism Mass on March 26 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Archbishop Rodi blessed the Oil of Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick, and consecrated the Holy Chrism for priests to use in their service this year. He breathed over the vessel containing the chrism (below left), a gesture which symbolizes the Holy Spirit coming down to consecrate this oil. Priests in the archdiocese (below right)also renewed their priestly commitments.
