NOVEMBER 15, 2024 THE CATHOLIC WEEK PAGE 11 Are you interested in a volunteer role where you really know you are making a difference for some of the most vulnerable children in our community? CASA volunteers make a life-changing difference for a child. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers advocate for the best-interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Volunteers work to ensure that judges have all the information they need to make the most well-informed decisions for each child. More volunteers are desperately needed. There's a child waiting for someone like you. CASA Mobile conducts several new volunteer training courses each year. If you believe you are ready to change a child's story please visit casamobile.org to find out more or call 251-574-5277. HOPE NEEDS A HELPING HAND. Become a CASA volunteer! By JOHN BLACKBURN For The Catholic Week The Knights of Columbus’ Silver Rose spent 30 days in Alabama as it criss-crossed North America. Each year, Silver Roses are carried by members of the Knights of Columbus along different routes before they all reach the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico by the Feast of Our Lady of Guada- lupe on Dec. 12. During the 30 days that the Silver Rose was in Alabama, it visited 30 parishes, including 11 parishes in the Archdiocese of Mobile and traveled more than 1,200 miles throughout the state. More than 2,500 people attended Silver Rose Masses. Six different languages were prayed in English, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Tagalog and Nigerian. Before reaching Alabama, the Silver Rose began its journey in Virginia in Febru- ary. It then traveled throughout Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. After it left Alabama, it traveled on to Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas before reaching Mexico. At each stop along the pilgrimage routes, Knights, parishioners and community members gathered to pray for respect for life, spiritual renewal of each nation and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe. While in Alabama, the Silver Rose was transferred by motorcycle, car and foot.
