She later served as administrator of Providence Hospital from 1933 until her death in 1941. Sisters and others visit a nativity scene at the hospital. 1916 1911 The Alabama Maternity and Infant Home (later Allen Memorial Home) first served as a maternity hospital for the general public, lat- er also becoming a home for unwed mothers. The facility was also a home for orphaned and abandoned children, the first brought on Christmas Eve, 1911. The Daughters of Charity oversee operations. Shown are children and sisters at the home in the 1940s. 1964 Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen asks Daughters of Charity to teach at St. James Major Catholic School in Prichard. The Daughters agree to come, provided desegregation is pursued. 1972 Daughters of Charity begin serving at Good Samaritan Hospital in Selma.
