Providence Hospital cel- ebrated its 50th anniversary with a dessert tea hosted by the Daughters of Charity and the administrative staff of Provi- dence. The hospital auxiliary began in 1958.The first officers were Mrs. J.O. Muscat, presi- dent; Mrs. T.R. Boudreau, first vice president; Mrs. A.J. Brown, second vice president; Mrs. Leo Ollinger, third vice president; Mrs. B. Kelleher, correspond- ing secretary; Mrs. Herbert Zoghby, treasurer; and Mrs. A. D. Henderson, parliamentar- ian. Co-chairs of the anniver- sary celebration were Ramona Doyle and Kay Weiss. Members of the McGill- Toolen Catholic High School varsity boys’ and girls’ track and field teams captured first place in the Southeast Relays meet at UMS-Wright School. Team members and coaches were presented with the “Hunt Trophy” for also winning the combined women’s and men’s award. Anji Wall of Daphne was awarded the Catholic Univer- sity of America’s archdiocesan scholarship. Anji was a senior at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Science Olym- piad, swim team and volleyball team. She was also active in the St. Ignatius Parish Bible study group. Providence Hospital Presi- dent and CEO John Roeder announced his plans to retire after eight years. McGill-Toolen campaign leaders, Melissa Reimer and Chip Baugh, and religion instructor and campaign orga- nizer Ruth Keenan, announced that the Lenten Distributing Educational Supplies to Kids campaign exceeded its $14,000 goal by 57%. Of the $22,000 raised, $14,000 was to go to fund the Montfort School in Haiti for a full year and the additional $8,000 was to be allocated toward other pressing educational needs for youths.
