Archdio- cese of New Orleans Auxiliary Bishop Fernand Cheri delivered the homily for the Mass. The Archdiocese of Mobile was one of 17 dioceses partici- pating in the third annual #iGive Catholic campaign on Nov. 28, a 24-hour online giving cam- paign to support various parishes, schools and ministries through- out the archdiocese. The archdiocese celebrated the feast of Christ the King with the annual Rosary procession from Bienville square to the Cathe- dral-Basilica for Mass. Archbish- op Thomas J. Rodi, who lead the procession also presented Christ the King medals to individuals from all the parishes in the arch- diocese at the Mass. D ECEMBER Fr. Patrick Mayer who served as a priest for 64 years at numerous parishes throughout the Arch- diocese of Mobile passed away at the age of 94. Born in County Carlow, Ireland, he was the 11th of 12 children. He was ordained a priest in 1953 and came to the Diocese of Mobile. His first as- signment was at St. Jude Parish, Montgomery. He was recently in residence at St. Columba Par- ish in Dothan, where his Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 2 with Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi presiding. Father L. Russell Biven passed away. He served the Archdiocese of Mobile for nearly 61 years. Fr. Biven’s first assignment was at Cathedral parish. He was pastor at Our Savior Parish from 1987 until 2006 and also played a ma- jor role in Catholic education.He passed away at the age of 86. His final years were spent at the Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi presided at the Mass of Christian Burial held on Dec. 12 at Our Savior Parish in Mobile. Parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Parish in the Toulmin- ville area of Mobile celebrated its 150th Anniversary with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi followed by a banquet. Former pastor Rev. Thomas Weise was the homilist. Tragedy hit the St. Vincent de Paul Community on Sat- urday, Dec. 9, when three chil- dren and two adults were seri- ously injured in a flash fire in the school building. Support was overwhelming with prayers and services offered including a place for the 116 students. Pas- tor Fr. Stephen Vrazel celebrated Mass followed by a candlelight service. Students completed the semester at Our Savior Parish. More than 50 middle school students from five parishes par- ticipated in the recent ACYC JR “Watch and Pray” at Mont- gomery Catholic Preparatory School. The event was led by Adam Ganucheau, PJ Ander- son, Fr.
