By ROBHERBST The Catholic Week MOBILE — Legion of Mary mem- bers from throughout the country con- verged on Mobile and went door-to- door for a mighty mission. To share Christ. Members from as far away as Pennsyl- vania and some from the Curia of Mo- bile went to 3,137 homes within the St. Vincent de Paul Parish boundaries over a week’s time to evangelize. It was believed to be Mobile’s first Legion of Mary Per- egrinatio Pro Christo — Latin for “Jour- neying for Christ.” Door-to-door evan- gelization is a hallmark of the Legion of Mary. “It’s a life-altering experience for me to have that opportunity to share Christ with people,” said Legion of Mary Curia of Mobile treasurer Patricia Millette. “To knock on doors and share Christ with people, talk to them about the sacra- ments, invite them to the Church is just incredible.” Legion of Mary Curia of Mobile past president Cecilia Wilson estimated she has taken part in 14 or more PPCs since becoming a legionnaire in 1999. Founded by Frank Duff in Ireland in 1921, the Legion of Mary is consid- ered the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with more than 3 million active members Volume 84, Number 05 MARCH 2, 2018 Tඁൾ C ൺඍඁඈඅංർ W ൾൾ඄ Official Publication of the Archdiocese of Mobile facebook.com/TheCatholicWeek twitter.com/TheCatholicWeek www.mobarch.org/catholicweek I NSIDE T HIS W EEK See LEGION, Page 20 Page 20 LEGION OF MARY ‘CALLED TO LEAD’ Menurged to break barriers for Jesus By ROB HERBST The Catholic Week MOBILE — Men throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile took a hard look at what’s keep- ing them from Jesus. About 200 men attended the “Called to Lead” men’s con- ference Feb. 21 at Holy Spirit Parish in Montgomery and Feb. 22 at Corpus Christi Parish in Mobile. Nationally known author and speaker Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, who hosted a 14-part video series on the Holy Spirit called “The Wild Goose” was the featured speaker at both ses- sions and urged men to break through whatever wall that separates them from Jesus. “All kinds of things keep us from the Lord, like sin, or addiction or our past,” Fr. Pivonka said. “It’s like we can never go before the Lord because of these things that I’ve done.” Photo by Rob Herbst/The Catholic Week Preparing to enter the Church Archbishop Thomas J.
