High school students en- ter the National Merit Pro- gram by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar- ship Qualifying Test (PSAT/ NMSQT®) — which serves as an initial screen of approximate- ly 1.6 million entrants each year. Semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis and are the highest scoring entrants in each state. They will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 Na- tional Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. AP Scholar Awards recog- nize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and national exams.The College Board recognizes different levels of achievement based on perfor- mance on the AP Exams and a total of 72 McGill-Toolen Cath- olic students were recognized. Students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams are named AP Scholars.
